‘A Man Who Will Be Deeply Missed’: Meg Ryan Publishes Heartfelt Homage to Rob Reiner

The actress Meg Ryan has shared a moving homage to the departed filmmaker Rob Reiner, who was her director in the beloved rom-com When Harry Met Sally.

A Tragic Discovery

Reiner was found dead with his wife, Michele Singer Reiner, at their home in Los Angeles at the weekend.

“We will miss this man so deeply…” Ryan shared on Instagram, alongside a picture of them together. “Thank you, Rob and Michelle [sic], for the way you believe in true love, in fairy tales, and in laughter. Thank you for your faith in the best in people, and for your profound love of our country.”

Court Case Developments

Reiner’s son Nick, 32, is accused of two counts of first-degree murder and was in court today. He’s being detained without the option of bail. It’s been reported that Reiner’s daughter Romy was the one who located her father.

“I must hold onto hope that their tale doesn't conclude here, that awareness can be heightened from this,” Ryan went on to write. “I don’t know, but my guess is that they would want that to be hopeful and humane, to be something that brings us all to a greater understanding of one another and to some peace.”

A Statement from Siblings

Reiner’s other children Jake and Romy released a message today. “Language fails to capture the daily agony we endure,” they said. “Losing our parents in such a horrific way is a devastation beyond comprehension. They weren’t just our parents; they were our best friends.”

Colleagues and Friends Remember

Ryan’s co-star, Billy Crystal, joined in remembering Reiner through a message shared yesterday together with remarks by Larry David, Martin Short and Albert Brooks.

“No one matched his comic instinct, his dedication to rhythmic dialogue, or his elegant sharpening of drama,” the tribute noted. “He cherished performers and improved scribes. His finest trait was granting creative liberty. He valued input and made you part of the team. Collaborators felt like a unified team. Being guided by him was an honor, yet just one facet of his impact.”

An Enduring Filmography

When Harry Met Sally was a box office and critical triumph in 1989, grossing more than $93 million worldwide and scoring Nora Ephron an Oscar nomination for best original screenplay.

Rob Reiner was introduced to Michele Singer Reiner whilst filming When Harry Met Sally. The pair were brought together by Barry Sonnenfeld, a director and friend.

Reiner’s notable filmography comprised classics such as Misery, Stand by Me and The Princess Bride. The director and his wife were together in marriage for 36 years.
