Alonso Sets Pace Opening Session at Singapore
Marina Bay Street Circuit
This weekend will see the race starting at 1pm BST on Sunday.
Live coverage streamed on digital platforms and official website.
FP1 Results Overview
Aston Martin's Spanish veteran was fastest beating Ferrari's Charles Leclerc and reigning champion in FP1 for the street circuit event.
The British team's title rivals Australian rookie and British talent finished the run in fifth and sixth.
The young Australian was over two tenths speedier than the Briton.
Alonso was 0.150secs leading of the Ferrari driver and a clear gap clear than the Red Bull star.
The Italian squad's seven-time champion was just outside the top three.
Car Performance
Few anticipate that the Silverstone-based team will be contenders for P1.
That said, the team are confident of a better weekend on a tight circuit that is ideally suited to their car, which excels when plenty of downforce are needed.
Veteran racer Fernando is also known as a Singapore specialist, and typically performs well on the night race venue.
Yet he was almost certainly using reduced weight or a increased power than his competitors, or both, to set such a quick time.
Practice Conditions
Fellow driver Canadian racer was almost two seconds off the pace in 18th place.
The Canadian had issues with his seat at the start and was also running experimental parts.
FP1 in Singapore is not reflective of race pace under lights as it is held in bright conditions in late afternoon, while the shootout and the main event are run at night.
Championship Standings
Piastri is ahead of Norris by a quarter-century with remaining rounds to go entering the weekend in the Lion City.
McLaren are in position to clinch the constructors' championship on the weekend.
Single possibility they can not tie it up in Singapore is if the Silver Arrows outscore them by over thirty or the Scuderia do so by a similar margin.
Competitor Outlook
Red Bull are positive of a good performance after Max's wins in the previous rounds preceding this weekend.
They were relieved when precipitation falling before the session stopped by the moment the vehicles went out on a circuit that had not been wet.
Senior figure Helmut Marko commented prior to running that they needed a clear session to make a comprehensive start on understanding their car configuration for the event.
