Edwards along with O'Neil represent the initial names under consideration to replace the former manager as manager of Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Pereira was sacked on Sunday after the team's ten-game without a victory beginning to the top-flight season.
And both candidates - each of whom have previous links to the team - are among the options to be considered by the club ownership.
The manager is presently at another club, which would pose a possible hurdle to his hiring at Wolves' stadium.
However the ex- Luton Town manager - who made over a century of appearances for Wolves during his playing career - is considered a strong candidate for the vacancy.
The 42-year-old is said to have backing from the Wolves directors as they start the search of hiring a new head coach.
Gary O'Neil is also appearing as a surprise contender, although he would be a surprising choice given he was sacked by Wolves in December last year.
The former West Ham United player is currently unemployed which means Wolves would not need to provide any buyout fee.
