Fans Demand Custody of Person Who Seized Ariana Grande
Loyal fans of the pop star are calling for that a person who leaped a barricade and seized the actress during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be arrested or deported from Singapore.
A circulating video depicts the person identified as Johnson Wen bypassing photographers and rushing toward Grande while the actors walked down a promenade surrounded by onlookers.
Co-star Cynthia Erivo promptly pulled the shocked actress away from Mr Wen, who was seen being led away of the gathering by security officers.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram recently that he was "let go after being taken in", though official papers indicated that he was due to appear on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Record of Disruptions
This is not an isolated incident for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Troll Most Hated", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram profile contains videos of him disrupting other high-profile occasions, including jumping on stage at Katy Perry's Sydney concert in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last year.
"Steps should be implemented applied against him as this is obviously a punishable act," stated an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his behavior.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user remarked.
Supporters Express Concern Over Ariana's Safety
Many fans blamed Mr Wen for "triggering past anxiety" Grande, who had revealed experiencing PTSD after a devastating incident at the finale of her spring 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and injuring many.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" commented a further comment on Instagram.
Some attendees also faulted guards at the premiere for not being adequately prepared; while different individuals called for digital services to remove Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips circulating online, Grande looked shocked when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen reassuring her while Mr Wen was removed by guards.
Grande has not issued a statement on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Numerous of fans had congregated in a sea of green and pink at the Wicked: For Good regional launch in a Singapore venue, including several who had stood in line for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The film, to be premiered on 21 November, is the follow-up of a two-part version of the well-known theatrical production Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two contrasting characters.
The show itself is a derivative of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the character Glinda Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who portrays the Elphaba, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were accompanied by cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the top-earning movie of last year in the UK, and earned a dozen award recognitions, earning several for best costume and set decoration.
