New England Equal Best Victory Run From Tom Brady Era with Triumph Against Jets
First-year player TreVeyon Henderson has scored five scores during the current campaign
New England tied their top unbeaten stretch since the Tom Brady era as they overcame division rivals the New York Jets by 13 points in professional football
First-year standout Henderson was the standout with three touchdowns as the Patriots notched an eighth straight win for the first time since legendary quarterback Tom Brady's final season with the team in the 2019 season
QB Maye threw for 281 yards and a score, completing 25 passes from 34 throws
The triumph bolsters the Patriots lead at the summit of the division as they moved to a 9-2 record, with the Jets at the foot after falling to two victories and eight defeats
The visitors had scored first at Foxborough with QB Fields running in a five-yard TD to cap the Jets' first possession
But the Patriots responded in the second period as the rookie scored two short rushing scores before the running back grabbed a reception from Drake Maye at the rear of the end zone midway through the third period to push the score to 21 to 7
"That was a big time for him rising to the challenge, and it's been fantastic for him to keep gaining experience," the quarterback commented on the rookie. "He aims to be excellent."
Justin Fields found Metchie late in the third quarter to reduce the lead for the visitors but Borregales booted a pair of field goals in the fourth quarter as the Patriots sealed the victory
