The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Chose the Incorrect Popular RPG Show Song

This latest animated series, the newest animated adventure by Critical Role, revealed a new introductory sequence. It showcases our favorite cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues fighting hard and making their mark, while teasing at several agonizing backstories for key figures including the voice actor's wizard Caleb, and Travis Willingham's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the opening looks stunning. But I couldn't help feeling that something was missing in the music selection.

This sequence employs "Welcome to the Continent", an exceptional composition created by artist Colm McGuinness. This piece originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second release released by Critical Role Productions LLC's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a wonderful sentimental option, and I suspect that devotees of the sequel series will love its inclusion.

Personally, The Mighty Nein's opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the second campaign's actual-play adventure. "It's Your Turn", written by musician the artist, became an immediate hit in my view when it was initially unveiled in 2015, and it improved further when co-founder the performer wrote words to the melody for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Featuring vocals from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and enjoyable. At the time, I hadn't seen the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my phone. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an installment of adventurous fun.

The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the right notes in my opinion. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its mood is a little off.

Naturally, Critical Role has already said that the series will have a few changes and variations from the original live sessions. An adjusted mood for its opening seems to be among these.

The Mighty Nein will be available to watch on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of the second series, the original episodes are available on Spotify and the video site.
